Shape Trek
IMPORTANT: Read before playing
This is far from complete, so don't spend too much time reviewing it (there isn't much to see). I didn't have as much time to work on it as I had hoped as it took me several days to think of a game idea where the mechanics revolved around the theme, and when I got started proceeded to spend a sizeable chunk of time bug fixing some edge cases in my libraries this project unearthed.
I don't think that this is sufficient to count as an entry as I didn't manage to finish the core gameplay loop, so I don't feel it should receive any votes. I debated whether to upload, but I do actually like the idea I came up with, and plan to work on it to at least get the prototype finished, and will upload after voting on the jam has concluded, so would welcome feedback on the idea.
Core Idea
You play the chief engineer on a starship conveniently made from regular polygons. Unfortunately, after a minor accident, your ship is blown up into pieces, scattered across the solar system and you have to rebuild your ship collecting the parts to reassemble it (or maybe even improve upon the design)
I envisaged it as a puzzle game where you started off only able to access a couple of engine components, so had to build a smaller ship which could travel a lttle further to access other parts of your ship - finding more powerful engineers, or tractor beams and scanners etc... to gradually reach the later stages.
Basically, a 2D lego set where you get more and more pieces.
Status
Unfortunately, I only got as far as getting a working version of UI that snaps together the polygons. So essentially that is all there is - at the moment it's a just tool for building shapes from unlimited regular polygons, with a sci fi cutscene introduction.
On the top left you have the 4 basic shapes.
Below that is the diamond icon - this will toggle end-cap polygon mode that cannot have any other polygons attached to it. The X icon will allow you to delete modules (but only modules that are at the end of a chain, which does mean at the moment you can make structures where you can't delete some polygons)
You also can't delete the root module (the starting hexagon)
At the moment the cut scene can't be skipped, I may patch in a skip button tomorrow just to make it less annoying for people!
